We were delighted to celebrate the latest graduates of the Postgraduate Certificate in Dairy Technology and Innovation at last week’s FITU conferring ceremony. Developed in 2016, the programme has now supported over 100 professionals in advancing their careers in the dairy sector.

Valio's chief innovation officer and UCC graduate, Dr Kevin Deegan, joins Bobby Kerr to chat about the business ahead of his contribution to the Agricultural Science Association Annual Conference being held in Cork on 4th September 2025.

Bobby Kerr's business programme on Newstalk radio covers all enterprise-related topics from personal finance to business news. In this episode, Valio's chief innovation officer and UCC graduate, Dr Kevin Deegan, joins Bobby to chat about the business about the business and why the death of dairy has been overstated. Click the link below to listen to Kevin and Bobby discuss everything from being a love refugee in Finland, to dairy markets, innovation, plant-based foods, through to saunas. Valio is Finland’s biggest food exporter, which brands itself as “the most innovative dairy and food company in the world”. Many years ago, a Valio employee won a Nobel Prize for figuring out how grass can be converted to silage using LAB fermentation. The School of Food and Nutritional Sciences in UCC have had several research interactions with Valio over the years, most recently in the form of a PhD project led by 3 in house academics.
